I have a topic to debate about, which is the following:

the united states ought to guarantee universal health care for its citizens

This is a horrible topic to debate about, IMO, and i cant seem to understand why universal health care, (health care for everyone basically) is a good thing. i mean all it does is bring more debt and make people more lazy. plus, this nation is already a mess, and our economy is already fucked up from health care, especially obamacare. imagine the scale of disaster that universal health care can cause.

so that is why i made this post: to ask you guys why this is a good thing.

Have you already been assigned to debate in favor of it? If so, you're going to have to resort to subjective, non-logical arguments about "helping" low-income sick people. But if the debate's judge (class vote or teacher) is like the voting public, at least you'll win and probably get a good grade out of it.

Well, at least most teachers will allow you to take a side if you acknowledge the other's views. Maybe you could even point out the logical errors in the public healthcare solution (I use the term "solution" loosely here, more in the sense of Hitler's final solution).

Universal health care is good if you need it, a lot. Otherwise, for larger nations such as the states, it's dubious. I am a supporter or it, since I've seen it work in my country, though I see why people would be against the plans.

the thing is our GDP (growth domestic product) or the money we make every year, is mostly spent on health benefits, such as social security and health care. if we could just lower this spending a bit, this would prompt people to work in this nation, saving the government money for other needs and giving the people more financial independence.

i see many of the euro zone countries use it.... and look at them now....

Not to mention that most other nations are more ethnically homogeneous than the U.S., and that a lot of our variety comes from immigration. Free medicine would further increase people's desire to come here and drain the system.

Really? I thought most of the American money goes to the army. Ah well, it's not a subject I've looked into very much.

Also, the health care and the euro are in no way related. France, Germany and the Netherlands (possibly more) are out of their crisis already, from which I can surely say that the Netherlands barely even noticed we had a difficult time. While I agree that we spend ridiculous amounts of money on health care, we can abide.

Greece, Spain, Italy (etc) have/had insane policies concerning pension, cuts and taxes, and they spent their money at the wrong moment. I don't think health care is a (major) cause of the crisis.
