Because cars cause much of the traffic accidents going on in today's world. I see at least one car accident everyday around my area. Cars are also a major factor for pollution - unless they start using electricity instead of gasoline.

I prefer motorcycles myself, but of course cars are in most traffic accidents. Almost everybody drives them. Cars actually do more to protect individuals than almost any other vehicle. Airplanes and trains may be more likely to avoid collisions (for now), but in terms of actually surviving one, you're best of with either a car or something comparatively slow, like a bicycle.
The only reason I prefer motorcycles is I'm antisocial and have a cheap attitude about fuel.
